DUBAI – An Indian expatriate has walked away with Dh1 million while a Pakistani visitor claimed a brand-new Nissan Patrol in the Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) mega raffles.

The announcement was made at Mercato Mall on Sunday afternoon, the last day of the 65-day DSS festival.

The DSS, organised by Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), concluded its Great Dubai Summer Sale (GDSS) season with the grand draws that offered shoppers extraordinary prizes. The winners were revealed during a closing ceremony where several other participants also received Dh200,000 scholarships.

Dh1 million for Indian expat

Sweety Stanly, an Indian expatriate from Kerala working as a customer relations manager at a Dubai jewellery shop, became Dh1 million richer after her raffle entry was picked. A gold bangle purchased for her by her fiancé was the ticket that secured her fortune.

The winning entry almost did not happen as Stanly mistakenly entered the wrong mobile number while registering. DSS officials managed to trace her through her bill details, ensuring she did not miss the jackpot. She received the call confirming her prize just days before the finale.

Nissan Patrol for Pakistani visitor

In another twist of fortune, Dr Raj Kumar, a 70-year-old Pakistani national visiting his family in Dubai, won a brand-new Nissan Patrol. The prize-winning raffle ticket came from jewellery purchased for his wife during his July trip. Initially believing the notification call was a scam, his son later confirmed the win with DSS. Dr Kumar returned to Dubai just in time to claim the prize, which he announced he would gift to his son.

The mega draws formed part of DSS’ citywide Shop, Scan and Win promotion, which required a Dh300 minimum spend. The festival, spanning more than two months, featured exclusive discounts, cash prizes, and grand rewards, cementing its status as one of Dubai’s biggest summer retail highlights.
